Making MLE a Therapeutic Experience: Enhancing Effective Outcomes
The Integration of MLE and the Dynamics of Therapeutic Practice
Course Description
The dynamic interpersonal interaction directed toward cognitive modifiability, through the application of FIE or LPAD or other related activities, is inherently therapeutic. This seminar brings the parameters of MLE and the developmental process of therapeutic interactions together through the formulation of an integrative model and provides both a conceptual foundation and background to implement mediational interactions. The seminar will focus on recognizing and formulating responses relevant to the developmental stages of the interactive relationship. Participants will have the opportunity to practice various aspects of the interactive model and acquire insights and skills to effectively elaborate their MLE oriented interventions. The content of the seminar is drawn from Integrating Social Cognition into Therapeutic Practice: Beneath and Beyond the Process of Therapy (Falik, 2021).
This course is taught by senior Feuerstein scholar, Prof. Louis H. Falik.
Seminar Structure
Prior to the seminar, participants will electronically receive instructional materials relevant to the conceptual content to be covered. At the seminar, hard copies of the practice activity formats will be provided. At the outset of the seminar, participants will be asked to select a case from their mediational experience that will serve as an exemplar of the process issues to be covered and used in various activities to make the content meaningful (see Course Syllabus).

Day 1:
- Session 1: Introduction and setting the context, Relationship between MLE and the therapeutic process, Structure of the course: theory, concepts, practice
- Session 2: MLE as a therapeutic experience, The Social Cognition Integrative model, Practice: identifying a client with whom you have worked
- Session 3: Potential contribution of MLE, Nature and process of change: cognitive and affective aspects, How to establish focus for the therapeutic interaction, Practice: describe the cognitive and affective needs of your “client of focus”
- Session 4: Balancing content and process, MLE relationship to content and process, Defining what is content and what is process, Practice: determining components in an FIE task
Day 2:
- Session 1: Structural components of the therapeutic process, Phases of the relationship, Focus of the interaction, Nature of responding
- Session 2: Focus on the phases: Attending and Listening, Integrating MLE parameters, Practice:
- Session 3: Focus on the phases: Responding and Intervening, Integrating MLE parameters, Practice: formulating relevant dynamics in identified client
- Session 4: Focus on the phases: Terminating, Integrating MLE parameters, Practice: formulating relevant dynamics in identified client
Day 3:
- Session 1: Focusing on the therapeutic aspects of the MLE interaction, Integrating concept and practice, Practice: completing practice sheet
- Session 2: Implementing a mediational plan, Formulating responses to make mediation therapeutic, Practice: completing practice sheet
